A Dialogue on the Future of World Heritage

    Network

Since 1993, Bamberg’s Old Town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site—and is thus part of a global network of sites of outstanding universal value. But how can this international exchange be put to practical use? What opportunities arise from collaboration with other World Heritage sites and institutions at the national and international levels? And how can shared experiences, knowledge, and strategies be applied to the protection and further development of the World Heritage site in Bamberg? These questions are at the heart of the networking efforts of the Bamberg World Heritage Center, which promotes dialogue, strengthens cooperation, and broadens perspectives beyond the city limits.

    National networks

Germany ratified the World Heritage Convention in 1976. Bamberg is one of 44 German World Heritage sites. The Bamberg World Heritage Office shares its expertise in various national working groups and professional networks.

    International networks

The World Heritage Convention is primarily an instrument of international understanding and cooperation. Against this background, Bamberg, as one of 1.092 World Heritage sites worldwide, is involved in numerous international networks that are dedicated to professional exchange.
