    One of the main tasks of every World Heritage site is to pass on the legacy of World Heritage to future generations. To raise awareness of this mission among young people, the Bamberg World Heritage Center has developed educational materials for various age groups and school grades.

    The 20-page promotional brochure published by the Bamberg World Heritage Center provides a concise overview of the key information regarding Bamberg’s UNESCO World Heritage Site, the “Old Town of Bamberg.” The brochure is bilingual, in German and English, to reach international visitors as well.

    Exhibition Catalog: Heavenly Garden

    To mark the 1,000th anniversary of the St. Michael Monastery complex, the Bamberg World Heritage Center curated an exhibition titled “The Heavenly Garden on Earth.” The exhibition catalog “The Heavenly Garden on Earth” features 37 selected photographs, images, and illustrations of plants and herbs that are also depicted in the Heavenly Garden of the monastery church.

    Flyer: Urban Gardening

    Urban gardening has been practiced in Bamberg since the Middle Ages. The “Urban Gardening” flyer explains exactly what this tradition entails, why the “Garden City” is an essential part of the “Old Town of Bamberg” World Heritage Site, and what challenges lie ahead in preserving these unique inner-city garden spaces.

    Anniversary supplement in the FT

    Bamberg’s World Heritage Site has many facets—some of which are highlighted in the anniversary supplement published by the Bamberg World Heritage Center in the Fränkischer Tag. The focus is on the Urban Horticulture Project, the new World Heritage Visitor Center, and, of course, the 25th anniversary of the Old Town of Bamberg’s designation as a World Heritage Site.

    World Heritage Weekend Flyer

    German World Heritage sites celebrate UNESCO World Heritage Day on the first Sunday in June. In the 25th anniversary year of the Old Town of Bamberg’s World Heritage designation, there will be double the celebrations: with a World Heritage Festival on Saturday and 25 themed tours followed by a Bamberg Evening on Sunday. This flyer for the “World Heritage Weekend, June 2–3” provides details on the exact program events.

    Anniversary Program for the First Half of the Year

    On December 11, 1993, UNESCO designated the “Old Town of Bamberg” as a World Heritage Site. This year marks the 25th anniversary of that designation. Special events will be held throughout the year to highlight the significance of this World Heritage Site. The most important information about the celebrations can be found in the “First Half-Year Program.”

    Anniversary Program for the Second Half of the Year

    To mark the 25th anniversary of the “Old Town of Bamberg” being designated a World Heritage Site, numerous events will be held in 2018 to raise awareness of the World Heritage Site. All dates starting in June are listed in the “Second Half of the Year Program.”

    To mark the 2018 World Heritage anniversary, a special series of guided tours called “25x25 to the Museum” is being offered. On the 25th day of each month, 25-minute guided tours of Bamberg’s museums and collections will take place. The flyer provides an overview of the many tours available.

    Flyer: World Heritage Learning Center

    The “World Heritage Learning Hub” flyer highlights the World Heritage educational programs available in the city. It showcases a variety of educational methods, learning materials, and lecture series offered by the Bamberg World Heritage Center, the Department of Cultural Affairs, the Bamberg City Adult Education Center, and Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg.

    Photo Contest

    To offer a fresh perspective on familiar sights, the Bamberg World Heritage Center, the Bamberg World Heritage Foundation, the Fränkischer Tag newspaper, and the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg are announcing a photography contest on the theme “Life in the World Heritage Site.”

    World Heritage in Easy-to-Read Language

    With a brochure in easy-to-read language, the World Heritage Center is providing barrier-free access to information about Bamberg’s World Heritage sites for the first time and is committed to promoting the inclusion of people with learning disabilities, visual impairments, or limited German language skills.
