Bamberg is a complex site, encompassing an entire living city of 76,000 people where modern life co-exists alongside historic cultural assets of global significance. Achieving balance between conservation and community needs is the constant challenge which the Bamberg World Heritage Office addresses. It coordinates the local implementation of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention and serves as a contact for all World Heritage issues.

    Management Plan

UNESCO, the body overseeing World Heritage, requires all sites to have a management plan. This management plan should combine general strategies for the protection, use, maintenance, and sustainable development of the site as well as policies with specific goals that relate to the significance and setting of the site.

    Urban Gardening

The Urban Gardening project is based on Bamberg’s gardening tradition and combines aspects of urban planning, monument protection, tourism, and commercial farming.
