A Glimpse into Bamberg's Urban Gardening

Horticulture Workshop with Mussärol Market Garden

In late November, students from Clavius Gymnasium gained a special insight into the world of horticulture as part of the “World Heritage and Horticulture” project.

The workshop was held in collaboration with Ms. Leumer from Mussärol Market Garden and the Bamberg Licorice Society. In addition to the nursery, the participants also got to know Ms. Leumer herself, her personal background, and her daily work routine.

A special experience was encountering licorice, which has been cultivated in Bamberg for centuries. After a small taste test, the students learned more about its uses and healing properties.

In addition, they gained basic knowledge about seven different herbs, including their cultivation, effects, and processing. With great enthusiasm, they then harvested herbs themselves and created four herbal blends, which they were allowed to take home at the end.

The visitor center of the Bamberg World Heritage Site smelled wonderful that day!

A special thank you to Ms. Leumer and to the enthusiastic students for their curiosity and enthusiasm for the art of gardening.

The “World Heritage and Crafts” project is supported by the Bamberg World Heritage Foundation—thank you very much for your support!
