Bamberg as a Model for World Heritage Management

Last week, the city of Bamberg was presented as a best practice for the management of UNESCO World Heritage sites during the international course “World Heritage Management for Sustainable Development” in Urbino, Italy.

Dr. Simona von Eyb presented the work of the Bamberg World Heritage Center to 16 experts from around the world. The course was organized by ICCROM, one of the three advisory bodies to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

Key topics discussed during the international exchange included a deep understanding of World Heritage attributes and the connection between culture and nature, the urgency of climate protection measures, the need for robust disaster risk management, and the integration of planning tools into urban administration.

We are taking away many valuable insights for the upcoming revision of the World Heritage Management Plan and are determined to further expand Bamberg’s pioneering role.
