Chalk Spray Campaign at the World Heritage Site

The Bamberg World Heritage Site covers 142 hectares and spans the Mountain, Island, and Garden City districts. Over 1,300 individual monuments are located within the World Heritage Site. Bamberg has been part of the international World Heritage family since 1993.

Many people are familiar with these facts. But where exactly are the boundaries of Bamberg’s World Heritage Site? How many times a day do people cross these boundaries, perhaps without even noticing? Do I perhaps even live or work within the World Heritage Site without knowing it? Providing guidance and raising awareness of the significance of the World Heritage Site—that is the goal of a week-long spray-painting campaign by the Bamberg World Heritage Center. Neon-yellow directional arrows are popping up all over the city these days.

Observant Bamberg residents can even win a prize: Anyone who finds at least 5 markings at different locations and sends photos of them to the World Heritage Center (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) will receive a small gift. But you’ll have to be quick: The eco-friendly chalk paint could disappear with the next rain.
