    Community Festival at Michaelsberg

To mark the reopening of St Michael’s Church, the ‘Community Festival at Michaelsberg’ took place on 9 and 10 May 2026 in the former monastery complex. The Bamberg World Heritage Centre was also present with an information and sales stand on both days of the festival.

A highlight of the programme was the specialist lecture ‘St Michael in the Service of the World – a journey of discovery through faith, community and World Heritage’ by Dr Simona von Eyb. In the Kreuzgarten, she provided insights into the many connections between St Michael’s Church and the World Heritage Site and highlighted how this historic place is linked to people and communities worldwide.

In addition, visitors to the World Heritage Centre’s stand were able to find out about the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bamberg and discover selected products from Bamberg and other World Heritage sites. The public festival thus provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the reopening of St Michael’s together and to bring home the significance of the World Heritage Site for the city and its residents.
