    Dialogue with Community Associations

The long-term preservation of the World Heritage Site is only possible if it remains a livable space for the people who live here. To this end, dialogue with the city’s community associations is particularly important.

On March 23, 2026, the annual meeting with the community associations took place at the World Heritage Center. Dr. Simona von Eyb, Director of the Center, reported on the activities in 2025 and presented this year’s current projects and priorities.

To strengthen citizen participation in shaping the World Heritage Site, the World Heritage Center launched the “We Are World Heritage” project this year. This project provides small grants to support the implementation of citizen initiatives and pilot projects.

At the end of the meeting, there was an in-depth discussion on current issues and concerns raised by citizens. Topics such as climate action, limiting vacation rentals, and supporting Bamberg’s traditional businesses were at the center of the discussion.

We would like to thank all participants for the open exchange and are taking many ideas with us for our future projects!
