The Bamberg World Heritage Center not only has a new director in Dr. Simona von Eyb, but will also soon feature a new exhibit in its innovative exhibition. As part of the Smart City Bamberg funding program, the digitized stretch of Karolinenstraße will now be accessible as a digital twin via tablet at the World Heritage Visitor Center on the Untere Mühlen. The inauguration of the new exhibit will be accompanied by a Smart Talk on the topic of digital heritage preservation on November 9, 2023, at 6:15 p.m. To mark the occasion, the World Heritage Center will host a panel discussion moderated by Dorothea Breier of Smart City Bamberg, featuring engaging guests. In addition to clarifying what a digital twin is and what it can do, the Smart Talk will also seek input from the public on what should be digitized in Bamberg and integrated into the 3D model—that is, the digital twin.
The panel, consisting of the new director of the World Heritage Center, Dr. Simona von Eyb, and Prof. Dr. Mona Hess, who holds the Chair of Digital Heritage Technologies at the University of Bamberg, discusses issues related to World Heritage, historic preservation, and the use of digitalization. “It is important to raise awareness about such an innovative project in a city and to involve the public,” emphasizes Simona von Eyb, adding that the digital twin has great potential to be a helpful tool in the field of World Heritage management.
Rounding out the discussion panel are Pascal Löffler, the Smart City project manager for the Digital Twin, and Prof. Dr. Daniela Nicklas, Chair of Computer Science, who will focus primarily on the technical feasibility and further design aspects of a Digital Twin.
What must a digital twin be capable of, and how should citizens be able to use it? All interested parties are cordially invited to the panel discussion, followed by a Q&A session, on the first floor of the Bamberg World Heritage Center, Untere Mühlbrücke 5. Registration is not required, and participation is free of charge.
