World Heritage and Craftsmanship: Experiencing Baking and Tradition

In early December, we had the opportunity to participate in a very special workshop at the Bamberg World Heritage Visitor Center: Mr. Seel from Bamberg’s oldest documented bakery—the Seel Bakery, which has been located there since 1921—introduced us to the art of traditional baking.

Together with a motivated group of students from Clavius High School, we cut out delicate shortbread cookies and creatively decorated them with nuts, raisins, and cherries, getting a taste of what true artisan baking is all about.

The workshop was a living tradition that reinforced the awareness that baking is a craft and part of our cultural heritage. In times when so much is mass-produced, the Seel Bakery shows us that craftsmanship, passion, and history go hand in hand.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Seel for the impressive insights and to all the students for their wonderful cooperation!

The “World Heritage and Craftsmanship” project is supported by the Bamberg World Heritage Foundation—thank you very much for your support!
