Open Call | Go2CHANGE Annual Training School 2026 – Climate Action for Heritage
The World Heritage Office Bamberg is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Go2CHANGE COST Action (CA24113) Annual Training School 2026.
Hosted within Go2CHANGE’s first-year Urban Living Lab in Bamberg, this training school launches a series of hands-on events dedicated to advancing climate action for heritage. Participants will work directly with ongoing risk and vulnerability assessments and explore how climate adaptation and mitigation are being integrated into the Management Plan of the World Heritage property Town of Bamberg.

Guiding questions
How can climate risk assessment, adaptation, and mitigation be embedded into existing heritage management frameworks — without compromising heritage values?
How can climate ambitions be translated into practical action and operational processes for heritage sites?
Participants will:
- Attend thematic lectures on climate action and climate-resilient heritage management
- Review results from Bamberg’s Urban Living Lab (risk and vulnerability assessments, monitoring, and emergency response considerations)
- Take part in co-creation labs developing adaptation and mitigation solutions for the World Heritage property
- Explore how to operationalise climate action within heritage management plans
- Gain hands-on fieldwork experience at selected heritage locations
- Engage with local knowledge holders and practitioners
- Contribute to building a European network for climate action for heritage
Who can apply?
Young researchers and PhD candidates; early-career professionals in heritage planning or climate-related fields; heritage site managers and practitioners; municipal staff working in urban planning, climate adaptation, or risk management; civil society representatives; and members of Go2CHANGE Working Groups 1–5.
Financial support available
Up to 20 selected participants may receive travel reimbursement and a daily allowance of up to €150 in accordance with COST rules. Priority will be given to candidates from Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITC) and Young Researchers and Innovators (YRI).
