Poster Campaign - Women in Culture

All over the world, women are guiding humanity’s shared cultural heritage toward a more sustainable and peaceful future by applying their knowledge and skills to address current challenges. Whether they are craftswomen, heritage conservationists, tour guides, politicians, scientists, heritage site owners and residents, volunteers, architects, gardeners, educators, teachers, philanthropists, or entrepreneurs—in Bamberg, too, hundreds of women are making an important contribution to the research, preservation, and promotion of our World Heritage.

These women are not always visible in the public eye. Drawing inspiration from Europa Nostra’s #Women4Heritage project, the Bamberg World Heritage Center is therefore using this year’s International Women’s Day on March 8 to highlight female expertise surrounding the UNESCO World Heritage site “Old Town of Bamberg”—with a poster campaign throughout the city. Printed in large format in black and white, the posters feature a collage of women’s portraits, showcasing female drive and expertise in the field of cultural heritage. “The women depicted represent the many women of Bamberg who dedicate themselves to our shared heritage every day, and for that they deserve our thanks,” said Diana Büttner, acting director of the Bamberg World Heritage Center.

The posters will be on display starting on International Women’s Day, March 16, at three large billboards in Bamberg: Heinrichsdamm/Schützenstraße, Ludwigstraße/Bahnhof, and Memmelsdorfer Straße near Weißenburgstraße.
