From July 19 to 29, 2026, the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee will take place in Busan, South Korea. The Committee is the central body responsible for implementing the World Heritage Convention and consists of representatives from 21 States Parties.

The agenda includes, among other things, the state of conservation of existing World Heritage sites as well as the inscription of new sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the List of World Heritage in Danger. The Committee is also tasked with calling for measures to protect sites and deciding on their inscription on the World Heritage List.

This session is of particular interest to the Bamberg World Heritage Center. The decisions and discussions at the international level provide important impetus for the management of World Heritage sites and the further development of World Heritage management. They thus also form an important framework for the work in Bamberg.

The Bamberg World Heritage Center is following the deliberations in Busan and the resulting decisions with great interest.
