    UNESCO World Heritage Day 2026

    Sunday, June 7, 2026 | 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Bamberg World Heritage Visitor Center, Untere Mühlbrücke 5

On Sunday, June 7, 2026, the Bamberg World Heritage Center cordially invites you to UNESCO World Heritage Day from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This year’s nationwide event is themed “Together for Peace and Understanding.” The focus is on how World Heritage connects people worldwide and what shared stories, experiences, and perspectives unfold across national and cultural boundaries.

The free program offers numerous hands-on activities for children, families, and adults.

The event kicks off from 11:00 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. with the lecture “Bamberg as a UNESCO World Heritage Site,” which provides an introduction to UNESCO, the significance of the World Heritage concept, and Bamberg’s special role as a World Heritage city.

Between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., international guests and members of the Bamberg Migrant Advisory Board will share personal insights into significant World Heritage sites around the world—from Venice and Aleppo to Istanbul and Isfahan. Their contributions vividly illustrate the cultural parallels, historical connections, and personal stories that the World Heritage concept links across borders.

The program is complemented by a themed tour organized by the Bamberg Tourism & Congress Service titled “Bamberg’s World Heritage: City of Islands, Mountains, and Gardeners,” which offers exciting perspectives on the unique urban landscape from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m.

From 2:30 to 3:00 p.m., the big World Heritage Quiz invites you to join in the fun and excitement—with a chance to win a special prize from Bamberg’s Gärtnerstadt.

A special highlight is the World Heritage rap workshop with Jonas Ochs from the rap group Bambägga, where children can develop their own lyrics about World Heritage sites and bring them to life creatively from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy the festivities with summer cocktails from Bamberg’s Gärtnerstadt. A continuous coloring activity and a cyanotype workshop for children also invite creative exploration.

The festivities will conclude at 5:00 PM with a joint peace initiative, during which balloons bearing wishes for peace and understanding will be released into the sky.

The Bamberg World Heritage Center looks forward to celebrating a living World Heritage site together with numerous guests—as a place of encounter, exchange, and cultural understanding.
