How can World Heritage be communicated in a way that is accessible, engaging, and sustainable? This question was the focus of the two-day “World Heritage Interpretation” workshop organized by the German UNESCO Commission and the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region” in Freiberg on September 1 and 2, 2026.

Together with Thorsten Ludwig and 14 other representatives from German World Heritage sites, the Bamberg World Heritage Center also took part in the exchange. The focus was on contemporary and sustainable approaches to World Heritage interpretation. In particular, the discussion centered on how facts can be presented in a way that encourages different target groups to engage with the subject matter, fosters dialogue, and strengthens shared responsibility for World Heritage.

The Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří Mining Region provided numerous points of reference for the discussions and offered new ideas and perspectives for the Bamberg World Heritage Center’s own outreach work. The Bamberg World Heritage Center was represented by Ms. Magdalena Dittrich.
