The association-run museum in Bamberg’s Gärtnerstadt neighborhood is delighted to have found a new curatorial director in Stephanie Eißing, with whom it looks forward to continuing the museum’s success story. Stephanie Eißing holds degrees in architectural and art history, previously worked in Thuringia’s historic preservation office, has been a certified tour guide in Bamberg since 2011, and has served as one of the city’s two local historians since 2012. Over the past three years, she has already served as acting director, handling various duties related to the museum’s leadership, a position that has been vacant since 2020. “I am very pleased about the new appointment. With Ms. Eißing, we have a capable and competent leader for the museum,” said Andreas Dechant, chairman of the Gärtner- und Häckermuseum e. V.
Stephanie Eißing will begin her work at the museum with a special initiative: As part of the “30 Years of Bamberg World Heritage” anniversary program, she will curate a small exhibition on the theme “Saved World Heritage: Lower Gärtnerstadt Bamberg,” present it on July 21, 2023, and offer a monthly public guided tour on the topic. Visitors to the Gärtner- und Häckermuseum can look forward to interesting insights, which will be offered on July 21, 2023, August 17, 2023, September 8, 2023, and October 6, 2023, each at 4 p.m. Participation requires only the museum admission fee. The Garden City is the focal point of the World Heritage anniversary program, which can be viewed in detail at www.welterbe.bamberg.de.
Another success for the Gärtner- und Häckermuseum Association this season is the restoration of the five outdoor benches in the open-air area, made possible by a grant from the Cultural Promotion Fund of the Bamberg World Heritage Foundation. Visitors can now once again relax on the benches and enjoy the museum’s lushly planted garden.
